Magical Places from Harry Potter - Alnwick Castle

Magical Filming Locations from Harry Potter

We have prepared a new series of articles for you, featuring posts about the most interesting locations where well-known scenes from all the Harry Potter films were shot. The films about the wizarding student are known for being filmed exclusively in the United Kingdom. This has made its castles, cathedrals, lakes, and other natural scenery famous worldwide. And what better magical place to start with than Hogwarts itself?

Film Hogwarts, or Alnwick Castle

Today's magical location is the British Alnwick Castle, better known to us as Hogwarts. Fans of J.K. Rowling's series will certainly recognize Alnwick Castle as the film's Hogwarts from the first and second movies, namely Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Notable scenes filmed here include Madame Hooch's Quidditch lesson, Harry Potter's first training with Wood, and the epic arrival of Harry and Ron Weasley in the flying car at Hogwarts.

A castle dating back to the turn of the first millennium!

The castle is the second largest inhabited noble residence in England (right after Windsor Castle, which is inhabited by the royal family).
The estate began construction around 1070! Over its history, it has only had two families, with the Percy family (not related to Percy Weasley!) living there for over 700 years. An interesting fact about the castle and British history is that Alnwick Castle was the first castle in Great Britain to have electricity! The castle has been powered since 1889 by a nearby hydroelectric plant, which provided lighting for over a hundred lamps throughout the castle. We wonder if they had at least one Hedwig-shaped lamp at the castle, but we fear it was unlikely.

Harry Potter is far from the only film project shot here. The famous Downton Abbey series and Robin Hood with Kevin Costner in the lead role were also filmed here.

Alnwick Castle is definitely worth visiting, and we believe that no true #potterhead should miss it.
