Gryffindor
Gryffindor House (in Czech Nebelvír and in Slovak Chrabromil) was founded by Godric Gryffindor around the 10th century and is one of the four Hogwarts Houses along with Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger were members of Gryffindor. The main colors of Gryffindor are red and gold, and the House animal is the lion. If you possess a brave heart, courage, and chivalry, you needn't worry about the Sorting Hat placing you in Gryffindor. The House crest also features a lion. If you relax by the fireplace in the Gryffindor common room, you might encounter the House ghost, Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, who is commonly known as Nearly Headless Nick. And how is he Nearly Headless, you ask? Better ask him yourself. Interested in who else was in Gryffindor, its history, and whether you would fit in? Read on.

Gryffindor History
Gryffindor House was founded along with the other Houses, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin, in the 10th century. These four Houses together form Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The name Hogwarts was given to the school because of a vision by Rowena Ravenclaw, founder of Ravenclaw House, who dreamed of a hogwort (a type of plant) that led her to the location where the school was built.
Godric Gryffindor
Godric Gryffindor, born in 993, was an English wizard who, along with Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, and Salazar Slytherin, founded Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They taught students in their respective Houses, sharing their knowledge and skills. Initially, Godric was a close friend of Salazar Slytherin, but their friendship deteriorated due to Slytherin's views on student selection. Slytherin insisted that only pure-blood wizards should be admitted. Despite Slytherin's attempts to persuade Godric and the other founders, he never succeeded, and a greater rift formed between them. Eventually, Slytherin left the school, but not before hiding his secret chamber, guarded by a monster that would only obey him or his heirs, intended to rid the school of all Muggle-born wizards.
Godric was also known for founding the purely magical village of Godric's Hollow, where figures such as Albus Dumbledore and the Potter family lived. Another famous "relic" left by Godric was his sword, the Sword of Gryffindor. Harry pulled it from the Sorting Hat and used it to kill the basilisk guarding the Chamber of Secrets. The sword was made by goblins and had the special power to appear to those who truly need it. It also absorbed the properties of whatever it defeated, allowing it to destroy Voldemort's Horcruxes.
Gryffindor Traits
Godric Gryffindor was known for his bravery and courage, traits he valued in the students he selected for his House. The main traits of Gryffindor are bravery, courage, daring, and loyalty. If you possess these traits, it is very likely that the Sorting Hat would place you in Gryffindor.
